John C Wilkins wins major contract on back of ‘green’ award

Leading acoustic flooring supplier John C Wilkins is the first acoustic flooring company in the UK to be awarded FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) accreditation.

The FSC trademark provides international recognition to organisations that support the growth of responsible forest management. The award recognises the Bolton-based company’s commitment to caring for the environment and purchasing raw materials from sustainable sources.

It should also significantly boost the company’s order book because major public and private sector customers now look for the FSC trademark before awarding contracts.

John C Wilkins has already secured a £250k deal with Prestoplan (owned by Taylor Wimpey), who make the timber frames for houses and apartments. The company will be supplying all their acoustic flooring on projects nationwide.

Mark Wilkins, Sales Director, said: "Ours wasn’t the lowest bid, but we won the contract because of the FSC accreditation.

"Many major housebuilders need to get supplies from FSC accredited companies to be eligible for ‘eco points’ from the government. There is an emphasis at the moment on affordable home building with eco friendly features.

"The FSC trademark shows customers that materials used in our products come from sustainable, traceable and legal sources. We have always had a strong environmental policy and had to go through a lengthy process to get accreditation.

"The award will strengthen our existing customer relationships and help us to find new markets."

Demand for their products has been consistently high and the business currently boasts a number of high profile clients, including Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey, Bellway, Redrow, Bovis, Berkeley Homes, Linden Homes and Bloor Homes.
